Citrix Mobility 2014 At the start of the event there was a look back over the last 25 years of Citrix systems.   Lots of nostalgic images of previous versions of software including Client Access Suite.   It was an interesting introduction which reminded us all how far Citrix has come over the years. Jason Tooley, Country Manager for Citrix in the UK was the host for the event.   He didn’t cover too much himself, but acted as the glue between other presenters. The curiously named XenDesktop 7 was released this week, the fact that XenDesktop 6 does not exist was an interesting twist.  This was named project Avalon and now includes XenApp as part of the same stack rather than a separate architecture.  The latest release of XenApp was 6.5 and maybe Citrix decided to bring this in-line. Any way!  Citrix showed a demo of a flash offloading mechanism for iPad with XenDesktop 7 at Synergy and Citrix Mobility London.  This recognised that an iPad was being used and instead of just sending screenshots to the client it translates the video to H.264 and sends it to the iPad for local rendering.  The results in the demo were amazing and I couldn't wait to get my mitts on the code to test.  Unfortunately this feature didn't exist in the Tech Preview so I had to wait patiently for the full release to come out. Citrix announced at the start of the year that Synergy Europe would be held in London this year.  This was great news for Citrix enthusiasts who couldn't convince their respective bosses that expenses for flights and hotels to Barcelona would represent a good ROI. Recently I have been configuring a Lync 2010 environment as a PoC for IM and presence for my company. The PoC includes using IM and presence from the desktop and on mobile devices.  This requires an edge configuration and reverse proxy using TMG 2010. I found the following blog post which is great for setting up mobility http://blog.schertz.name/2011/12/deploying-the-lync-2010-mobility-service/ Everything was configured included DNS names, certificates, software install etc.etc. Once I had everything configured I found that if I tried to connect using my iPad device it would provide the following error message. Can't connect to the server. It may be busy or temporarily unavailable. Please try again I looked at the logging and found that the Lyncdiscover URL wasn't being redirected to the configuration file required to login.
